History

Establishment of food department

This department was set up to manage the public distribution system and distribute food grains at reasonable prices. In the last few years, the public distribution system has become an important part of government policy for managing the food economy in the country. Under this, the central government has taken the responsibility of procurement, storage, transportation and bulk allocation of food grains through the Indian Food Corporation. In the state till 1964, the Food and Aid Department functioned as a joint department. From the year 1964, the Food and Civil Supplies Department came into existence separately from the Department of Assistance.
